Abstract
Wind energy conversion systems (WECS) are becoming extremely valuable to utilize all over the world due to the rapid advancements in its technologies. In this paper, grid side Voltage Oriented Control (VOC) technique is analyzed and compared to the proposed implementation of Indirect Power Control (IPC). VOC is a well-established grid side controller which uses PI controllers, while the proposed IPC do not depend on PI controllers for the active/reactive power, and it mainly uses State Feedback Control (SFC). Both control techniques will apply control action on an Inductance-Capacitance-Inductance (LCL) filter in the dq rotating reference frame to decrease the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and govern the total power deliver to the grid. The proposed IPC outperforms its competition in terms of overall performance, such as decreased THD and excellent capacity in stabilizing state variables with high oscillations. As a result, IPC is more resilient than the PI-based VOC.
