Health related Quality of Life of Diabetes patients in Kuwait.

يؤثر مرض السكري على مجالات متعددة مثل الأداء البدني، الرفاهية العاطفية، الوظائف الاجتماعية، الحالة الاقتصادية، والصحة العامة في حياة المرضى، مما يؤثر بدوره على جودة الحياة. التقييم الروتيني لجودة الحياة كجزء من الممارسة السريرية لديه القدرة على تحسين التواصل بين المريض ومقدم الرعاية الصحية، وتحديد المشاكل التي يتم تجاهلها بشكل متكرر، وتقييم المشاكل، وتقييم تأثير الجهود العلاجية على مستوى المريض الفردي. يوجد بيانات محدودة جداً متاحة في دولة الكويت. الهدف من هذه الدراسة هو تقييم جودة حياة مرضى السكري والعوامل المرتبطة بها في مدينة الكويت. ستُجرى دراسة ملاحظة مقطعية في خمس منشآت للرعاية الصحية الأولية مختارة بشكل ملائم في مدينة الكويت بين مرضى السكري البالغين (>18 سنة) الذين يترددون على المنشآت المختارة خلال فترة جمع البيانات ويرغبون في المشاركة. سيتم اختيار عينة مكونة من 576 مريضًا بشكل ملائم. سيتم استخدام أداة EQ-5D-5L، التي قدمتها مجموعة EuroQol في عام 2009، في هذه الدراسة لقياس جودة الحياة. سيتم تعيين اثنين من جامعي البيانات المدربين لإجراء جمع البيانات. بناءً على مستوى معرفة المريض، سيتم إما إكمال أداة جمع البيانات ذاتيًا بواسطة المريض، أو سيقوم المحاور بإدارة الاستبيان بعد أن ينهي المريض عملية الاستشارة قبل مغادرة العيادة. سيتم تجنيد المرضى طوال اليوم وعلى مدى عدة أيام لتلبية حجم العينة المستهدف للمنشأة المحددة. سيتم إجراء تحليل البيانات باستخدام برنامج Stata الإصدار 13.0 (Stat Corp. 2013. Diabetes affects various domains such as physical functioning, emotional well-being, social functioning, economic status, and general health in a patient’s life, thereby affecting the quality of life. Routine assessment of quality of life as a part of clinical practice has the potential to improve communication between the patient and the health care provider, identify frequently overlooked problems, assess the problems, and evaluate the effect of therapeutic efforts at the individual patient’s level.

There is very little prior data available in the State of Kuwait. The objective of this study is to assess the quality of life of diabetic patients and its associated factors in Kuwait City. An observational cross-sectional study will be conducted at five conveniently selected primary healthcare facilities in Kuwait City amongst adult diabetes patients (>18 years of age) attending selected facilities during the period of data collection and willing to participate. A sample of 576 patients will be conveniently selected. The EQ-5D-5 L tool, which was introduced in 2009 by the EuroQol Group will be used in this study to measure the QoL.

Two trained data collectors will be employed to conduct the data collection. Depending on the literacy level of the patient, the data collection tool will be either self-completed by the patient, or the interviewer will administer the questionnaire after the patient completes the consultation process prior to exiting the clinic. Patients will be recruited throughout the day and over several days to meet the target sample size for the
specific facility.

Data analysis will be conducted using Stata Version 13.0 (Stat Corp.2013.Stata Statistical Software: Release 13, College Station, TX: StataCorp LP). Descriptive statistics will be used to describe participants’ demographic characteristics. Multivariate logistic regression analysis will be conducted to explore the association between participants demographic and diabetes related status and participants’ quality of life.
