Towards a Unified English Technology-Based Writing Curriculum for High Schools in the Arabian Gulf Countries: The Case of Kuwait and Oman

"وضع منهج موحد لتدريس الكتابة الإنجليزية في المرحلة الثانوية في دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي وخصوصاً في دولة الكويت وسلطنة عمان. قد تكون فكرة هذا البحث جديدة وهناك ثقة من أخذ هذه الخطوة لما في هذه الفكرة من أهمية تربوية. تتمتع دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي بنسيج ثقافي وديني ولغوي متجانس مما يجعل فكرة الاتيان بمنهج موحد لتدريس الكتابة الإنجليزية في هذه الدول متسقا بل ومنسجما مع تجانسها الثقافي.
كما تخوض هذه الدراسة في طرق تدريس الكتابة الإنجليزية التقليدية والمتبعة حاليا في الكويت وعمان حتى يتسنى للباحث أن يقدم منهجا تربويا مترابطا ومعتمدا على برنامج حاسوبي جديد لتدريس الكتابة الإنجليزية. كما سيقوم الباحث بعمل استبيانات ومقابلات وذلك للوصول إلى أفضل الوسائل الممكنة لتطوير منهج تدريس الكتابة الإنجليزية في المرحلة الثانوية في الكويت وعمان. من الأهداف المهمة لهذه الدراسة كذلك هو تضييق الفجوة الحاصلة الآن في مستوى تدريس الكتابة الإنجليزية بين طلبة المرحلة الثانوية العامة وطلبة المدارس الأجنبية.
إن منهج تدريس الكتابة المقترح يعتمد بشكل أساسي على برنامج حاسوبي جديد في تدريس الكتابة الإنجليزية. هناك دراسات عديدة اثبتت فعالية استخدام التكنولوجيا في تطوير المهارات اللغوية لا سيما الكتابة فاستخدام التكنولوجيا في تطوير مهارات الطلبة الكتابية كفيل بتطويرهم وجعلهم أكثر وعياً في اكتساب المهارات الكتابية في اللغة الإنجليزية مما سيساعدهم بشكل كبير في دراستهم الجامعية لاحقاً. This study is an attempt to create a unified English writing curriculum for two GCC countries, namely Kuwait and Oman. As novel as this attcmpl may seem, I lhink that taking this step is realistic enough to involve lhese two important Gull` countries. `l`aking the socio-cultural factor into account, one observes that Arabian Gulf people share a similar cultural and religious background. rhis homogeneity enables one to hypothesize that a unified English writing curriculum would be acceptable and et`tu.)tive for the countries concerned.
l*his study further investigates lhe current instructional strategies and modalities, and seeks through using a new web-based application i?r teaching writing, interviews, and survey data to suggest remedial measures in order to empower teaching writing methods. Also, the gap found in public schools, where Arabic is the main tocus of instruction in Kuwait, becomes insignificant when compared to private schools, where English is the medium of instruction. This research paper`s goal is to make this transition smoother through using a technological writing curriculum. The suggested English writing curriculum is mainly based upon a new web-based application t?r teaching academic writing. Several studies have shown the importance of technology in teaching English skills, amongst which is writing. Using technology in teaching English writing can help GCC students in becoming more aware of appropriate English writing and its techniques, which will help them immensely in their university years.
