Abstract English

This study provides an insight into the 210Po concentration in the organic and inorganic components of the size fractionated aerosols. The per unit mass 210Po activity in samples collected from high volume air sampler (HVAS) in the organic phase was quite uniform across the three size fractions PM>10, PM2.5-10, and PM0.39-2.5, but certainly, the total activity was significantly high in the fine aerosol fraction as the maximum mass of aerosol-bound particulates was in this size fraction. The analysis of organic and inorganic phases of aerosols showed that 210Po concentration in the organic component was one order of magnitude higher than the 210Po concentration in the inorganic component. The 210Po carrying organic phase of aerosols was investigated and it was found out to be largely composed of microorganims, with high microbial and fungi diversity and dominance of phylum Proteobacteria and phyla Ascomycota, Basidiomycota, and Zygomycota, in the HVAS; whereas, in the low volume air samples, the rhinoviruses were the most prevalent, followed by enteroviruses, FluA, FluB, parainfluenza 4, and adenovirus. Most viruses were detected in >0.22-µm sample fraction. In addition, COV-229 E, COV-NL63, COV-HKU1, and COV-OC43 were also detected. The bacteria were more prevalent in indoor aerosols with the presence of Chlamydophila pnemonia, Legionella pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumonia, Mycoplasma pneumonia, Moraxella catarhallis, and Haemophilus influenzae. All of the bacterial types, except H. influenza, were found in both >0.22-µm and
