Abstract English
In Phase I of our KFAS project code. 2013-1207-01 A-C, we established the capability of reversal of diabetes in STZ-induced
diabetes in SD male rats to approximately close to normality by treatment with fraction-B preparation from the skin of
a catfish. We also established the fact that the reversal of diabetes was associated with regeneration of the pancreas. Our
preliminary results showed that other organs and tissues damaged by diabetes and the toxic effects of STZ also showed
remarkable recovery through regeneration. In this mini project we aim at continuing our ongoing experiments which must
not be stopped or delayed on the treated diabetic animals. Some of these experiments take about 5-9 months to complete.
We are repeating the experiments on female SD rats. We are concentrating on the regeneration of the organs especially the
testes and the nervous system to finalize results for publication. Our efforts for collection of research materials from the
sea (lipids and proteins) followed by fractionation and preparation of desired components and fractions will be pursued.
