Abstract English

Soil moisture is an important input for hydrology, climate and weather forecasting, carbon cycle, environmental, agriculture, and human health. The main aim of this project is to understand the climatic change with respect to the changes in soil moisture over the Arabian Peninsula and Kuwait. The impact of climate change in Arabian Peninsula and Kuwait can be derived from periods (past, present and future) model differences. The regional model simulations of the average maximum soil moisture can be predicted for the past, present and future. This can be done thru field experiments for soil moisture, backscattering coefficient and microwave emission using microwave radar/radiometer systems. It also includes study on the impact of climate change in accordance with soil moisture change. Hence, its comparison with the precipitation trend using different regional climate models and consequently earlier prediction of soil moisture and precipitation for midcentury over Arabian Peninsula. Moreover this project can use those equipment such as microwave L-band Scatterometer & Radiometer and the six Stations which had been installed in the current test site for the field experiments and data analysis along with its comparisons with the relevant satellites (SMAP/ SMOS /AMSR2) data products.
