Development of Arabic Therapeutic and Communication Application for Individuals with Dysphasia and Delayed Language Development

في عام 2007 فاز معهد الكويت للأبحاث العلمية بالجائزة المعلوماتية العالمية عن فئة الصحة وذلك عن برنامج الصوتيات العربية والذي طوره المعهد بالتعاون مع المختصين بالتخاطب في مستشفى الطب الطبيعي والتأهيل. ولقد اكتسب المعهد سمعة رائدة في مجال تقديم الدعم الفني لذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة. وعليه، تقدم المستشفى بطلب رسمي إلى المعهد لتطوير برامج حاسب آلي باللغة العربية لعلاج وتحسين نوعي من حالات قصور التخاطب: الديسفازيا وقصور التطور اللغوي. طبقاً لإحصاءات مستشفى الطب الطبيعي والتأهيل لسنة 2010، كانت هناك 721 حالة لقصور التطور اللغوي و175 حالة مصابة بالديسفازيا مسجلة في سجلات المستشفى. علماً بان مستشفى العلاج الطبيعي والتأهيل لديه عدد محدود من اخصائي النطق وعليه، تقدم مستشفى الطب الطبيعي والتأهيل بطلب رسمي إلى معهد الكويت للأبحاث العلمية لتطوير برامج للحاسب الآلي باللغة العربية تكون أدوات فعالة تساعد في علاج حالات القصور اللغوي والديسفازيا. ومن المقترح أن يتم تطوير حزمة من برامج الحاسب الآلي باللغة العربية لعلاج حالات القصور اللغوي والديسفازيا واختبار مدى تقدم وتطور الحالات واستجابتهم مع التدريب. وسيتم تطوير البرامج مع المختصين بالمخاطبة في مستشفى الطب الطبيعي والتأهيل.

In 2007, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) won the World Summit Award in the e-Health category for the computer application Arabic Video Phonetics, which was developed in cooperation with phoniatrics at the Kuwait Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital (KPMRH). KISR has been gaining a well-known reputation in providing technical support for people with special needs. KPMRH had approached KISR to develop a computer-based suite of applications in Arabic language for the treatment and enhancement of two kinds of speech disorders, namely, Dysphasia and delayed language development. According to KPMRH 2010 statistics, there were 721 delayed language development cases and 175 Dysphasia cases registered in KPMRH records with limited number of phoniatrics. A need arises for an Arabic suite of applications to train the cases and test their performance, which is the topic of this proposal. In this proposal, several computer applications are suggested to be developed separately to be used both at phoniatrics/speech clinic and at home, which will enable them to test their performance andmeasure the improvement. The proposed suite of applications will be developed in cooperation of the specialists in KPMRH.
