Harnessing Trade for Economic Growth and Diversification in Kuwait

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تحديد وتحليل أهم العناصر التي ستشكل سياسة دولة الكويت التجارية في السنوات العشر القادمة وذلك للتعرف على الخيارات الإستراتيجية المحتملة لدعم هدف الحكومة في تسخير النمو والتنوع الاقتصادي. يمكن أن تستفيد دولة الكويت من تفعيل دور السياسة التجارية والتي تعتبر من أهم أبواب النمو والتنوع الاقتصادي وبالأخص في قطاع الخدمات. ولقد أوضحت النتائج إن الانفتاح التجاري والذي يتضمن اتفاقيات تجارية إقليمية يحسن من أداء الاقتصاد العام.

Kuwait's trade regime, and the opportunities it may hold, is often neglected and under-estimated as a viable window full of potential opportunities, to harness growth and diversify the structure of the country's economic activities, especially in the area of services. This study aims to identify and analyze the key elements of trade policy for Kuwait in the upcoming ten years, with a view to derive important strategic options for supporting the government's objective to accelerate economic growth and foster economic diversification. It is conclusive that opening trade by engaging in regional trade agreements (RTAs) and free trade agreements (FTAs) improves macroeconomic performance as a result of the absence of trade diversion.
