Project: General Research › General Research 2007

Project Details

Abstract English

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the period between 2000 and 2010 as the Bone and Joint Decade (BJD). The BJD initiative set out to raise awareness regarding growing concerns of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions and to reduce the social and financial burden associated with MSK conditions. Overall, our ‘gap’ analysis indicated that the majority of the BJD targets were not met in Kuwait during this period. Barriers that prevented achieving the five BJD goals are discussed in the study. The finding of this research has identified some key areas where further work should be done to reduce the growing burden of MSK disorders in Kuwait. We have found that there are tremendous opportunities in Kuwait from a research, practice and advocacy perspective that make advancing towards these goals possible.
