Source Rock Evaluation for the Mauddud Formation in Kuwait

يعد تكوين المودود من أهم خزانات البترول الطباشيرية في شمال دولة الكويت. ويتم انتاج البترول تجارياً من هذا التكوين من حقول الروضتين والصبرية. تهدف هذه الدراسة الى التقييم والتعرف علىطبيعة المادة العضوية (الكيروجين) في تكوين المودود. فالبترول الذي تم احتجازه في الجزء المنقذ من هذا التكوين، قد يتم اعتصاره من قبل الكيروجين المتراكم في الجزء الذي يمثل مصدر الصخور. وهكذا، قد يصبح تكوين المودود تكويناً منتجاً للصخور بذاته. كما سوف يعكس تحليل طبيعة المادة العضوية بالاضافة الى التحليل البتروجرافيكي والكيميائي للصخور طبيعة الظروف الخاصة بإعادة التموقع لتكوين المودود.

The Mauddud Formation is one of the major Cretaceous oil reservoirs in Kuwait. Oil from this formation is commercially produced from the Raudhatain and Sabriyah fields. This formation is composed mainly of a calcarenitic limestone interbedded with marl and glauconitic sands. Its thickness ranges from almost zero in the south to about 99m (324ft) in the north. The lithology reflects a gradual shallowing of the basin at the time of Mauddud formation deposition. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and identify the nature of the organic matter (kerogen) in the Mauddud formation. The oil reserved in the permeable part of the formation, might be squeezed from the kerogen accumulated in its’ source rock part. Thus, the Mauddud reservoir might be a self producible rock The analyses of the organic matter nature with the petrographic and chemical analyses of the rocks will show the nature of the depositional conditions of the Mauddud formation.
